Fun Facts of the Tour
Our
second edition took place the last week of
January 2008 with 180 participants including
42 from other countries and/or
jurisdictions. Participants from California,
Washington DC, England, Florida, Indiana,
Mexico, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania,
South Carolina, St. John, St. Maarteen, St
Thomas, Texas, Tortola, Virginia, Washington
and 29 towns from around Puerto Rico
participated in this last edition.
Our first edition on the other hand, took
place in November of 2006 in conjunction
with our friends from the Encantada
MultiSport Team. Being our first tour, we
limited the participation to only 100
cyclists (89 actually participated) and
unlike the 2008 edition, it unfolded as a
single group ride, peloton formation.
Participants of our first edition included
friends from Washington DC, Miami, Orlando,
Atlanta, Tortola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
Many more are expected this year and the
international participation is expected to
grow.

Welcome to Puerto Rico
Dear Website Visitor,
From February 5-8, 2009, the island
of
Puerto Rico will serve as a
tropical background for the greatest
three day cycling tour in the
Caribbean , the
Lighthouse Cycling Tour ‘09.
Known by the riders of
San Juan Cycling Club, as the
“Vuelta de los nueve faros”, this
three day cycling tour, will take
its participants around
the island of
Puerto Rico highlighting nine
(9) historical lighthouses
strategically located around our
coasts among a million other things
in between and for no extra cost,
you will accompanied by the most
hospitable, friendly bunch of
cyclist in the planet, the Puerto
Rican cyclists!!.
The tour hasn’t even started and the
night before we have an opening
ceremony with food and a folkloric
live show of musicians, dancers,
singers and other cultural
performances. On the first official
cycling day alone, we will showcase
historic fortifications built in the
1500’s, huge coconut plantations,
the foothills of the Yunque Tropical
Rain Forest, international marinas,
quiet nestled towns (such as
Yabucoa and Maunabo) and stay the
first night in the second largest
City of Puerto Rico – Ponce.
The
second day will take us through the
Yauco Ruins, dry forest of
Guanica , plains of Lajas,
salt farms of
Cabo Rojo, and a night stay
over Mayaguez , host of the 2010
Central American and Caribbean
Games. For this second night, we
have a pleasant surprise … all the
details are currently locked up in
Fort Knox !!.
The final day takes us early to
Rincon, known around the world for
its world class surfing beaches.
After this we will go by a bunch of
north coast beaches such as Jobos,
Los Tubos and Puerto Nuevo to name a
few, aside from countless rivers and
karst formations ending at the
historical stone paved streets of
Old San Juan
which will serve as a
closing reminder of what a beautiful
island we have. Unlike previous
years, we will be arriving at the
best preserved and largest Spanish
wartime fortification that not only
houses the most important lighthouse
of
Puerto Rico but also one of
several World Heritage sites, the
San Felipe del Morro Fort, circa
1539, and home of the Lighthouse
Cycling Tour ‘09 closing ceremony.
For the organizers, ending the
closing ceremonies in this spot is a
dream come true!!
We are confident that this tour will
by far exceed the expectations of
all our participants. For a third
year in a row we expect an
unprecedented number of
international cyclists from all
parts of the World. The word has
been leaking out in the past months
and only a limited number of
participants will be allowed this
year. If you are looking for the
perfect excuse to leave home in
February 2009, look no further. The
weather in our Island is just
perfect for cycling since it’s not
only the month with the lowest
average temperature, but also the
one with the lowest average
precipitation of the year!
Regardless if you are a local or a
visitor, we have gone through great
lengths putting this website
together with everything you need to
know and a little bit more!!. So,
don’t wait until tomorrow and start
your planning today!! If you
have any comments, inquiries or
suggestions, please feel free to
write us at
lctpuertorico@gmail.com.
So, come February 2009, get ready to
dump your arm and leg warmers, pack
your jersey pockets with tons of
suntan lotion (and a camera!!) and
come
join us now in
this cycling adventure that will for
sure provide lifetime memories.

We guarantee that the LCT’09 will be
better than our last edition. We

feedback of the 2008 edition has
spread like wildfire throughout
cycling communities in the United
States, Canada, Mexico, England,
Argentina, all Caribbean Islands and
I will personally make sure our
friends in Europe also find out.
